How Far Would You Go to Avoid Wearing a Collared Shirt?

Shirt Collar With No Shirt
This actually happened...
A couple of weeks ago, a guy walks into the office wearing a v-neck sweater with nothing under it but a t-shirt. Said guy's manager advises him to hit the mall to buy some collared shirts to go under those v-necks. After all, perception is everything in this business.

This week, I go into one of the conference rooms -- at the client site -- to take a phone call, shut the door, and I find this hanging on the back of the door...

It would appear that said guy, a manager at a consulting firm, chose to go with this feaux collar instead of taking the time to wear a shirt under his sweaters. One could look at this in one of two ways:
  1. Genius innovation for speed and comfort
  2. An odd manifestation of immaturity in the workplace
Which one do you think it is? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I don't mind collared shirts. However, I do hate wearing ties =)

  2. Jesse, I love a nice silk tie! When I was traveling for work to France, my wife wasn't sure how I would always come back with more ties than when I left.

  3. Wow-- I would say that was pretty genius! My husband is the same way with ties!

  4. Thanks for for the comment, Makeba. I don't know why people don't like the ties. Is it using that lonely top button of the shirt or the tie itself? How does your husband get around the tie situation. Does he do the clip-ons? They make some decent ones...

  5. I think it's pretty genius in theory, especially since it fooled Mr. CPA and everyone else all day. The issue came when the phantom collared shirt started turning sideways. Conclusion: needs more refinement.

  6. There's mixed reviews but you definitely had some support in that view. Attaching homemade suspenders might be the game changer you're looking for.
